Prehistoric Memories
I was born and raised in the same home in Southern California. I was a part of a wonderful, big, active family with lots of great memories there. After some crazy times I moved to Phoenix to start a new life for myself. It was not easy to leave since I still had so many ties to SoCal. My family had deep roots there and our family didn't miss a chance to get together and enjoy each others company. So even thou I lived in Phoenix I would make the trip across the desert many times a year. For any occasion you could think of from holidays, birthdays or even one of my nephews games.
I had certain landmarks that would help pass the time on that 6 hour drive. When I would leave Phoenix it was exciting to make it to Quartzite. Then, the Colorado River which meant we were in California. It seemed like you drove for days but then after the windmills these HUGE Prehistoric Beasts on the side of the freeway. It was always so exciting to see them!!
These Prehistoric Beasts took on more that just landmarks when I had kids and they would travel with me. Especially when they started to fall in love with dinosaurs and knew so much about them. On several occasions it would be come a "rest" stop for us. It was a great place for us to stretch our legs and take care of a few necessities. And then of course it happened my kids were watching the movie Pee Wee's Big Adventure and there was a scene in the movie filmed there. They went crazy, shouting we've been there, I know that place, HOW CAN WE GET IN THE TREX MOUTH!!!!
Now living on this side of the Beasts we made a trip to see them as well as other sights in the area. It is amazing to me how that small place in the California desert has changed. We were fortunate to stay at a beautiful casino which is like an oasis in the desert. I was still so excited to see those Beasts and it brought back so many memories of my kids and life.
